Heterologous antilymphocyte glubulin, histoincompatiblity matching, and human renal homotransplantation.
DURING THE PAST 16 MONTHS, all patients treated with renal homotransplantation at the Colorado General and Denver Veterans Administration hospitals have been administered heterologous antilymphocyte globulin intramuscularly, usually for the first 4 postoperative months. This agent was used as an adjunct to the standard immunosuppressive drugs, azathioprine and prednisone. The preparation of the...
متن کاملThe Use of Heterologous Antilymphocyte Globulin (alg) in Human Renal and Liver Transplantation.
Early in 1967, preliminary reports were made from our institutions (Starzl, Marchioro et al. 1967; Starzl, Porter et a/., 1967) of the first clinical use of heterologous antilymphocyte globulin (ALG). T h ~ s immunosuppressive agent was prepared from the serum of horses that had been immunized against cadaveric lymphoid tissue, especially spleens (Iwasaki et al., 1967). It was added to therapy ...

AT the University of Colorado Medical Center, 189 patients have been given kidney homografts at a remote enough time to permit relatively long follow-up in the event of continued survival. On the basis of this experience, a reassessment will be attempted of the practical value of renal transplantation. In addition, the effect of various factors upon short and long-term survival will be examined...
متن کاملImmunologic responses of graft recipients to antilymphocyte globulin: effect of prior treatment with aggregate-free gamma globulin.
The immunologic response of graft recipients to antilymphocyte globulin has been studied. The clearance from the serum of (125)I-labeled antilymphocyte globulin was studied in 15 graft recipients previously treated with antilymphocyte globulin and in 4 control patients not previously treated with antilymphocyte globulin. The mean serum half-life of antilymphocyte globulin was 7.2 days in contro...
